  • Tradition information: Asatru/Norse
    Asatru/Norse
Asatru is not usually considered a branch of wicca. It is a reconstruction of the old Norse
religion that encompassed Scandinavia and much of Europe until the 11th Century.

Icelandic poet Gothi Sveinbjorn Beinteinsson promoted government recognition of
Asatru as a legitimate religion; this was granted in 1972, and since then the religion has
been in a period of rapid growth in Europe and North America.

The are three races of deities in the Norse pantheon. They are all regarded as living
beings that are interested in and involved with the affairs of man.

The Aesir (from whence the term Asatru ultimately comes) are the clan gods representing
    Kingship, order, craft etc.,

The Vanir represent the fertility of the earth and forces of nature.

The Jotnar are giants who are in a state of permanent warfare with the Aesir. They
    represent chaos and destruction.

In the Norse mythology, the fate of Gods and man has already been decided. It is
believed that at the battle of Ragnarok, many of the Gods will die, the world will come to
    an end and be reborn.

Depending on the region where Asatru is practiced, it can vary quite greatly in terms of
structure, hierarchy and ritual, although the pantheon that forms its center remains
    consistent throughout.
