Gathering of the Vibes is an annual music, arts and camping festival now in its 15th year. Vibes has grown into a four-day festival that has featured such world-class talent as Crosby, Stills and Nash; all living members of the Grateful Dead; the Allman Brothers Band; James Brown; the Black Crowes; Buddy Guy; George Clinton and P-Funk; Bruce Hornsby; Les Claypool; and many, many more big names, while continuing to showcase extraordinarily talented, young, up-and-coming bands to the 15-25 thousand people who attend each year.

Held in six different venues over its fourteen years, Vibes 2010 marks the festival's sixth return to Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT, making Seaside Park the Vibes venue more than any other place.
Vibes has become the Northeast's preeminent music festival -- springing from traditions born in the Grateful Dead community.

During the band's 30 year run, the Grateful Dead sparked the creation of an unparalleled sub-culture of loyally devoted enthusiasts. More than just another band, the Grateful Dead became a way of life for thousands of self-proclaimed Deadheads.

For decades, Grateful Dead shows served as a community-building institution where followers revelled with friends both old and new.

In 2007, Gathering of the Vibes came home to Seaside Park, re-kindling the magic of the unforgettable 1999 & 2000 shows. With the help of the Vibe Tribe and the generous support of the City of Bridgeport, we look forward to an exceptional 15th anniversary in 2010 on the shores of Long Island Sound.

  • Happy 30th Birthday Harry !!!
    Sun, 25 Jul 2010 13:56:53 EDT

photoThe Group that Shall Not be Named

I am incredibly happy to announce that we were able to secure a venue to have a fantastic party to celebrate Harry's midlife crisis!

Stone Creek Bar and Lounge was so happy with us last time that they are giving us use of their front area to party and to view a DVD.

We have the space from 6pm-10pm. Its all ages (bring ID if you are legal and want to drink) and there will be cake!

I figure the party can start with a few rounds of Apples to Apples followed by a screening of one of the Potter films.

I am going to be unusually democratic regarding the choice of film :) Please post which film you would prefer when you RSVP. All entries excepted except Sorcerers Stone, because the guy is 30, running children's photos of him is just not right =)

Also, please RSVP ASAP. If we get a large enough head count, THE BAR WILL CLOSE FOR US!!!

  • AGC continuing campaign
    Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:14:05 EDT

    photoArlington Gaming Club

Our Star Wars/Cyberpunk campaign continues to kick it in to high gear as the New Sith continue their campaign against several systems in the Koornacht cluster of the Colonies. After another huge battle around a large moon in the Taldor system the renegades found out that their assassination squad has been found out and leaked to the Republic and the Galactic Press Interstellar. These matters complicate their efforts.

This campaign is wide open and we always vote on which game/GM will run the nights game to take the campaign ever foward. Come out and be a part of the most dynamic campaign group in the DFW area.

You must attend a game or event before September 1st or risk your membership in this group. Please read our intro and group info very closely. Remove yourself from this club if your beliefs contradict with ours or you do not plan on meeting up with us.

    Thu, 08 Jul 2010 00:50:42 EDT

photoThe Orange County Pirates Meetup Group

    ATTIRE:

Attire for weeknight Meetups is mundane (ie: whatever you were wearing that day).

Attire for faires and festivals is usually pirate garb.

All members are expected to RSVP with a Yes or No for this event in order to maintain their memberships as active. Because many of our monthly Meetups are held inside a restaurant it is important that a total of attendees, as accurate as possible, is necessary to reserve the appropriate amount of space.

    * If you believe you will be late please leave a comment with your RSVP to let us know.

    * Please make sure your RSVP is current! If you are no longer able to attend or find that you are able to attend please make sure your RSVP reflects that accordingly.

    * If you are listed with a YES response, but find you are unable to attend at the last minute, please contact MistressPrime directly and let her know you were unable to attend.

    * Any who are listed with a Yes, but do not attend, and do not contact MistressPrime are considered a No Show. Members are allowed a maximum of 3 No Shows before being removed for non-attendance.

    *Who should come?
All members and their guests are welcome! Please remember to RSVP and include any guests you may bring.

    *Are newcomers welcome?
    Absolutely, yes.

    *Why should people come?
To meet people, make friends, and have a good time.

    *What will it be like?
It will be just like dinner with friends.

    *Should members bring anything?

Money for food and our fee. Anything else is up to you.

*How will members find you when they get there?

Look for the large crowd and Meetup table signs.

    Tue, 27 Jul 2010 23:08:10 EDT

photoThe Group that Shall Not be Named

This months Meetup is group Mad Libs! Featuring YOUR FIC!

Our fantastic member Renata has offered to "Mad Libbify" your fic if you want to submit it for this event.

The fic portion should only be about 2 pages long, as we want to do several. If you want to submit it (PG-13 or less please!) please e-mail it to renatavgerecke@gmail.com

Also, if you want to "Mad Libbify" one of your fics on your own, please feel free! You can send those directly to me at jrosenthal.hp@jonkeith.net

    --
For those of you who are confused, the way this event works, is that a person is going to be selected to gather various words from our Meetup audience. Those words will be incorporated into a fic or book passage and will take the place of words that are already there.

This almost always leads to hilarious results!

  • South OC Larp Alliance Fighters' Guild/Live Effects Fighter Practice
    Wed, 07 Jul 2010 01:17:26 EDT

    Live Effects Community

Wear your costumes for bonuses and epic appearance. :)

This is a beginning to intermediate fighter practice, focused on fundamentals of participating in larp in general and on the Live Effects rules in particular, with occasional forays into other rule sets as appropriate.

"Fundamentals" include how to fight safely with light larp weapons (boffer, latex, and hybrid weapons), safety, some standard terminology, fair play, and sportsmanship.

We will be doing some one-on-one combat drills to improve basic technique, some free-for-all games to improve situational awareness, some team-on-team games with hero type characters to improve teamwork and proficiency in the rules, and some hero vs monsters scenarios to demonstrate how all these things come together in a context similar to what is seen in actual games.

For the team-on-team games, we will be using a (very) simplified version of the Live Effects rules, the full version of which can be found here. The last page will be far and away the most useful.

We will also have character creation clinics for those who want to go to a game as a player character but want help with the character creation process as needed.

We will be running our practice in Santa Ana this time, at Cabrillo Park. We'll be meeting at the green arrow in this Google Maps image. Hope to see you all there. :)

A drum circle unites people of all ages through rhythm of collective consciousness. Drum circles have developed into three main types: "culturally specific", such as Middle Eastern or West African groups, "facilitated circles" with drums from any culture, and "anarchic" circles - improvised communal drumming with no designated musical leader. Bring a drum or other percussion instrument or just come for the experience. Percussion instruments include but are not limited to hand drums such as djembes, bongos, doumbeks, tablas, tambourines, shakers, frogs, sticks, cymbols, even bells! Lore:While trailing a shadowy being of godlike power, a group of adventurers, heroes, and mercenaries has learned of the location of one of the creature's deadly generals - the Ser'vek. The group travels toward the home of Sildyr Vyan Trass on the edge of the city of Sentry, hoping to gather more information and unearth the identity of one or more of these generals.

While traveling to Sentry, the group is lead by Vylir Erich Raken, a native to the land of Vylin Tor and an experienced warrior. Due to Sentry's location in the mountains, the group is forced to travel by foot for much of the journey. As they approach the fortress-city, the weather seems to fluctuate strangely; one evening, it is bitter cold, another, it is hot as day. The wind starts and stops abruptly and without warning. The sorcerers in the group sense something gravely amiss; it is as if the Dominions of the regions have been let loose to war upon each other. The road grows more treacherous as the group approaches the city. The winding mountain pass is well-traveled, as it is the only land route to eastern Vylin Tor, but the unusual weather has made the climb inhospitable, and the travelers encounter few others on their journey.

The travelers approach the home of Sildyr Vyan Trass on the forty-eighth day after departing the city of Marinth. Their supplies have dwindled in spite of a brief stop at the city of Dyria, which was near the base of the mountain range, for supplies and much-needed rest.

As our game begins, the travelers are nearly in sight of the Sildyr's home and the city's mighty gates. Vylir Raken warns them that strange beasts inhabit this mountain pass, and they would be wise to watch the sides of the road with cation...

  • South OC Larp Alliance Fighters' Guild/Live Effects Fighter Practice
    Wed, 07 Jul 2010 01:17:53 EDT

There may be a number of folks out there such as myself that have never actually taken part in one of these games or did it a while back and could use a refresher. These could serve as a an introduction or as learning session for a game we've never done.

Of course that assumes that inexperienced folks are sought after. I'm sure some groups are foundded for more advanced players - which is fine not trying to be judgemental. I've been in groups for other interests where skill level was important.

So bring yourself out rookie and vet alike as I run our first boot camp.
