I’ve known about the healing properties of certain plants since I was a young child and used this knowledge to treat my pets and myself. It never occurred to me until recent information the Quantum physicists have released about intention that much of the reason the treatments worked, is because I believed they did and the fact I was doing it out of love for the animals and gratitude to the plants.
Over the years I have found great solutions to many problems using natural substances and some great over the counter ones. Staying and being healthy is relatively easy but sometimes we do get a bump or injury or have a minor accident. Many of my friends come to me and ask advice on different little remedies I use so I thought I would share some of them with you.
Ambesol Gel " this wonderful little item is a MUST for the first aid kit. It is antiseptic and works amazingly well for burns. I’ve never had a scar from a burn after using it. It numbs the pain of any small cut or burn, can be used in the mouth since that is what it’s designed for, but one of the best things I use it for is shingles. I have a small spot on my back that flairs up occasionally, just a small drop stops the pain and itching, the shingles dry up are gone within days. I can’t recommend it for large areas (or mucus membrane areas) since it’s kinda stinky and sticky. It also has a bit of a sting for a couple of seconds when you first apply it until the numbing effect takes hold. I have also used it for Fire Ant bites and it stops the pain of the bite immediately. There are similar products but most don’t contain alcohol and are not an antiseptic like Ambesol
Super Glue/ Crazy Glue" for all the CSI fans out there, we know that super glue raises fingerprints on porous surfaces, but did you know that it had it’s field trials during the Viet Nam War for sutures. It was designed to bond skin and can save lives when stitches are not an option. If you think about it stitching a would causes more trauma to the skin from the secondary holes the needle makes, also more chance of infection not to mention the pain of stitching. I have been using super glue since the 1980’s for wounds that would normally require stitches. My best friend once fell on the steps of a house, during a party and hit a concrete wall with her head causing an inch and .5 gash on the brow bone. I immediately put pressure on it, wiped it with an alcohol swab to get as much of the bleeding stopped as possible then held it together and glued it shut. We actually stayed at the party; luckily it was a Halloween party so the blood on her shirt looked like part of her costume. A month later you could not even see a scar. Had it been stitched she probably would have had a raised scar. Many hospitals are now using a special super glue on children that need stitches in the emergency room, it’s much less painful and traumatic. You can always glue the wound then take the person to the hospital, it bonds skin and starts the healing process right away just be careful not to glue yourself to the other person. Sometimes the gel form of the glue works better and is easier to control.
Sage Poultice- this comes right from “Buckland’s Complete book of Witchcraft”. I have used this for so many things it is amazing and actually does have a numbing quality that takes away pain. It’s best used on bug bites, bee stings, thorns or splinters, great for painful ingrown toenails. It pulls infection and fluids from puncture wounds, which makes it especially good for Dog bites.
Recipe:
Mix about 1 T ground sage
1 t flour or cornmeal (I prefer flour)
Add a couple t of water to make a thin paste ( it will thicken when you heat it)
Put in Microwave for about 10 seconds
Paste will become thick and gooey.
Put on would as hot as you can stand it but make sure you don’t burn yourself it gets very hot. Replace with new hot glob when it cools. You can also put a bandage on it and leave it on but it usually works right away. You can reheat a couple time but works best when fresh.
Pine Tar " This has very similar uses to the sage poultice since it draws. It’s just a little easier to apply especially to certain areas. Pine tar is a black greasy substance normally found in tube form, so you want to use a bandage or something to cover it and will need to leave it on for awhile. I used it on a wart that came up very fast on my leg and in 2 days it was completely gone with no trace of a blemish. I had a friend who told me that in High school they had terrible acne and out of desperation put pine tar all over his face before he went to bed, in the morning to his surprise much of the painful acne was gone and he kept using it until it disappeared. He has no Acne scars and beautiful skin today. It also works well on bites and rashes.
Please remember that this approach to healing is my own personal choice, and one that works very well for me. Since we dont wish to get sued to smithereens, please remember that you should consult your doctor before making any changes to your medications.
