Saturn (Kronos or Cronus in the Greek) was a god of fertility and agriculture. Saturn fled to Latium in an attempt to escape from the wrath of his son Jupiter.
Saturn introduced agriculture to his people, teaching them how to farm the land. The Roman festival of Saturnalia was celebrated during the winter, and was a time of feasting, merriment and giving of gifts.
He is also associated with the European figure of Old Father Time, representing the ending of the year.
